How to Advertise Properly on Your Website
How many times have you come across a website that has advertisements everywhere? If you have never seen a website like that, you’re very lucky, but many others have seen websites like that and it only makes you click out of the website.
Do you think those websites make any money? In honesty, I don’t know, but knowing how people react to websites, probably not. Only those who know how to advertise discreetly will successfully make money from it.

The advertisements should not distract the reader from your content
I can guarantee you I’m not the only one who has told you this, but content is king. The main reason visitors become interested in a website is because of the content appeals to them. If you have appealing content, you will have visitors staying longer than 5 seconds and they will take the time to read your content.
If you decide to allow advertisements on your website, don’t let it distract the reader from your content. Ideally, advertisements are best on a sidebar, the top of a post or at the bottom of a post. Those spots allow the reader to focus on the content, read through it, then focus their attention on the advertisements.
The advertisements should be relevant to your content
I can’t tell you how many times I have seen websites about web design that have advertisement to irrelevant websites. Do you really think a web designer is interested in bridal dresses? I would hope you would say no to this question.
Always carefully select your advertisements. If you believe your readers will be uninterested in a certain advertisement, don’t have it and choose something your readers will be interested in. Having advertisements that are relevant to your content and your audience will increase the chance of being clicked.
Obnoxious animated advertisements are unattractive
As I grow accustom to the web, I start finding myself unattractive to very flashy things. Anything from flashy websites to flashy advertisements often have me turned off from it. I’m not alone though, many others have evolved past flashy animations and have looked else when presented.
A static advertisement sells better because everything is presented in front of the viewer for them to comprehend in their own way. Animated advertisements can often speed past important selling points and make the viewer think twice before click on it. With that difference, viewers will be more attracted to a static advertisement and will be more likely to click it.
Limit the number of advertisements on a page
We all have seen a wall of advertisements on websites and do you think they work? I don’t think they do because having a wall of advertisements overwhelms a viewer. Once the viewer is overwhelmed, they either click out of your website or ignore the wall of advertisements completely.
If you have numerous advertisements, have an even number of them on the sidebar and spread them out across the content by putting it at the top or bottom of each post. That way each advertisement will have white space for the reader to focus on it without being distracted by other advertisements.
